This station is in an old TransLogic (Powers) system installed in 1971. The relay controlled system had so many problems that usage was constantly declining due to lack of user confidence. The system had become a nightmare for maintenance and users alike. The manufacturer wanted to replace it but was unwilling to fix it. Other vendors were willing to |

upgrade it but at a prohibitive cost. Management brought ASCI into the picture and the system was brought up to date with a totally new control system. oThe stations were rewired oThe central relay box was trashed! oA control center installed: computer/printer/monitor oField wiring (160 conductors) was decommissioned oNew Zone wiring—2 conductors for communications oExisting 48vdc power left in place oPhoto Optics replaced the old mechanical switches throughout o48vdc slide gate motors replaced with air cylinders. |

The hospital saved considerable money by taking advantage of a unique ASCI option: by participating in the work, they received generous discounts. Using the existing 48vdc wiring saved the hospital even more. They avoided the cost of pulling 110 vac into each station—a very large savings not offered by competitors on this job. |
