AMSCO/ATC Upgrades—6”

This is a typical AMSCO/ATC 6”, twin tube system. Half the stations are up-send and half are down-send. The front (black) panelthe ASCI panelhas the keypad and display on front and controls on back. The bright vacuum fluorescent display is visible even in this photo in normal light. The interface to the original electronics was implemented with pin compatible connectors.

ASCI recently made major mechanical upgrades to this system. All the slidegate motors were replaced with pneumatic cylinders. The old 48vdc motors were very hard to come by and very expensive when you did—they were paying about $300. The

air cylinders we  inalled have several big advantages:

oNo fuses to blow

oThey are reversible for the rare cases when a carrier gets stuck in a gate

oThey cost about $25...and can be purchased locally!

oThey are fast, silent and positive

oReplacement time is about 20 min. compared to several hours for motors

oThe slide gate limit switches were replaced with magnetic switches. They never wear out and never need adjustment.

oThe old mechanical switches in the receive, send, and overload positions were replaced with photo optics.

Service calls to the stations are almost unheard of now.
