The electric solenoid windgates have their problems. It snaps open and closed so fast that it literally ‘flies itself to pieces’. The internal hardened steel shaft snaps...and replacement is not a trivial procedure. One client put a very large resistor in series with the solenoid coil to slow it down! Also, the solenoids cost about $200 from the original manufacturer. The ASCI upgrade replaces the solenoid with an air cylinder and crank as shown. A needle valve controls the extension speed. It’s very smooth, positive and even quiet. You can buy the cylinder downtown for about $20...if you ever need to. But you will never have to replace a broken shaft. |
