Quantum Systems—Windgates

The electric solenoid windgates have their problems. They snap open and closed so fast that they literally ‘fly to pieces’. The internal hardened steel shaft snaps...and replacement is not a trivial procedure. One client put a large resistor in series with the solenoid coil to slow it down! It got so hot it would burn you. Also, the solenoids cost about $100 from the manufacturer. (The original vendor, Quantum, is out of business.)

The ASCI upgrade replaces the solenoid with an air cylinder and crank as shown. A needle valve controls the extension speed. It’s very smooth, positive and even quiet. You can buy the cylinder downtown for about $20...if you ever need to. But you will never again have to replace a broken shaft.
