Quantum Systems—Windgates

The electric solenoid windgates have their problems. It snaps open and closed so fast that it literally ‘flies itself to pieces’. The internal hardened steel shaft snaps...and replacement is not a trivial procedure. One client put a very large resistor in series with the solenoid coil to slow it down! Also, the solenoids cost about $200 from the original manufacturer.

The ASCI upgrade replaces the solenoid with an air cylinder and crank as shown. A needle valve controls the extension speed. It’s very smooth, positive and even quiet. You can buy the cylinder downtown for about $20...if you ever need to. But you will never have to replace a broken shaft.
