Lamson Brush System (or any uncontrolled dispatch) |
|
There were several manufacturers of ‘uncontrolled dispatch’ systems, i.e., the brush and magnetic systems. They can all be upgraded—in the same way—to function far better than when new. This particular presentation uses a brush system installed by Lamson in 1964. The upgrade process turns it into a controlled dispatch as in all modern systems. The basic steps are: o Replace the front panel with one containing the ASCI controls/display/keypad group o Remove (or disable) the brush block reading devices throughout o Replace all the mechanical limit switches with photo optics o Replace the exchanger controls with standard ASCI station control boards o Depending on the installation type, some windgate controls are modified o Occassionally we recommend running a new phone line along the pipes to daisy chain through all the stations. We explain the pros and cons and let you decide. Again, this system was originally installed in 1964! The stations aren’t very handsome but the customer had about a million dollars left over to paint them! (We don’t believe they did.) This system often runs 24 hours or more without an alarm. Not too bad for a 35 year-old system! |
